World Robot Olympiad-Bangladesh national event to be held in Ahsanullah University
The Bangladesh phase of the World Robot Olympiad is going to be held offline for the first time in the country. In 2018 and 2019, Bangladesh's small roboticists achieved outstanding success in the "International Robot Olympiad". In continuation of that, Bangladesh Open Source Network - BdOSN took the initiative to take Bangladesh one step further in various robot-centered competitions. At the end of 2019, BdOSN applied for membership in the "World Robot Olympiad", one of the most prestigious robotics competitions in the world organized with the aim of increasing the creativity and problem-solving skills of children and adolescents. On January 6, 2020, Bangladesh became a member of the World Robot Olympiad through the signing of an agreement between the “World Robot Olympiad” and the “Bangladesh Open Source Network (BdOSN)”. Bangladesh is the 25th Asian member and 84th global member of WRO. “Bangladesh Open Source Network” as the national organizer of “World Robot Olympiad” organizes the national phase of “World Robot Olympiad-Bangladesh” every year in Bangladesh. But this year the organization is going to be held at a different level, Bangladesh will organize this Olympiad offline for the first time.
A press conference was organized in the conference room of Creative IT Institute on Wednesday morning to announce the detailed program of the event. At that time, General Secretary of Bangladesh Open Source Network Munir Hasan, Managing Director of Computer Services Limited Mamluk Sabir Ahmad, Convener of World Robot Olympiad-Bangladesh 2022 Redwan Ferdous, Chief Executive Officer of BdOSN Kaniz Fatema, WRO BD Coordinator Maherul Azam Qureshi, Creative IT Institute Founder and Chief Executive Officer Monir Hossain and many others were present at this time.
General Secretary of Bangladesh Open Source Network, Munir Hasan, attended the conference and said, "This Olympiad will introduce Bangladesh to the whole world in a different way.” WRO BD Advisor Mamluk Sabir Ahmad told everyone, “Robotics is introducing students to a new joy. Robots are now not only a matter of industry but also a tool of education. In the future, the world will be controlled by these robot scientists of today.”
Monir Hossain, founder and chief executive officer of Creative IT Institute, the sponsor of the national event, told the audience, “Creative IT has opened the doors of possibilities for the youth of Bangladesh. Creative IT has always been and will be in the future with such technological advancements. "
It is to be noted that after the World Robot Olympiad membership, Bangladesh was scheduled to participate for the first time in the international finals held in Montreal, Canada from November 12-15, 2020, but it was canceled due to the global pandemic situation, instead Canada organized an informal online competition called "WRO 2020-X". organized by Mir Umayya Haque Padma and Eva Newaz participated in the flag procession on behalf of Bangladesh in the inaugural ceremony of "WRO 2020-X".
In 2021 “World Robot Olympiad” was held “PowerBots – The Future of Energy” centered on the theme. Considering the global corona pandemic situation, this year's competition was officially held online. The WRO organized the competition in four categories: "Regular", "Open", "WRO Football" and "Future Engineers". Bangladesh participated for the first time in the "Open Category" and "Future Engineers" category in this competition in 2021. Two teams from among the winners of the national phase of “World Robot Olympiad-Bangladesh 2021” got the opportunity to participate in the international competition this year. At the opening ceremony of "WRO 2021", the small roboticist Nusaiba Tazrin Tanisha, Rudaiba Tarannum and Namir Ahsan participated from Bangladesh in the flag procession.
In 2021, participating for the first time in this competition for Bangladesh, "Team Powerium" achieved a world ranking of 16th in "Open Category" Senior, and "Team Prodigy" achieved the 10th position in the "Future Engineers" category.
It is to be noted that Bangladesh Open Source Network is going to organize the national phase of the "World Robot Olympiad" in Bangladesh this year after getting the membership of WRO. However, this year the event is going to be held at a different level, this Olympiad will be held offline for the first time. Like every year, the World Robot Olympiad-Bangladesh national event will be held at the Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology on Saturday, September 24, with a specific theme. This year the theme of the Olympiad is “My Robot My Friend”. “. Earlier, during the registration period from September 2 to September 14, a total of 78 contestants in 32 teams registered in two categories to participate in the national phase of the 2022 Olympiad. Out of which 6 teams will participate in the “Future Engineers” category and 26 teams will participate in the “Future Innovators” category. Two teams from the winners of the national phase of “World Robot Olympiad-Bangladesh 2022” will participate in the international phase of the official “World Robot Olympiad 2022” in Dortmund, Germany.
“World Robot Olympiad” is one of the largest robotics competitions in the world. Officially started in 2004, more than 85 countries of the world participate in this robotics competition. According to WRO data, more than 75 countries participated in the last pre-Covid offline Olympiad, in 2019 alone. The number of participating students worldwide at the national level was more than 75 thousand. More than 28 thousand teams have already participated in this competition. More than 2750 teams participated in the International Finals. More than 35 thousand volunteers have directly or indirectly helped to make this event a success. Moreover, the international finals organized since 2004 have so far involved judges from more than 35 countries around the world.
The 2022 World Robot Olympiad-Bangladesh national event has been sponsored by “Creative IT Institute”. Hosted by Bangladesh Open Source Network.
